He is the newest chip in the block of Indian statecraft using a turbaned Sikh to harm Sikh image through his gross abuse of Muslims and a cross-section of the Sikh community. He is being nurtured by the state apparatus to make inroads into the Sikh fold and the latest move is his candidature in the Delhi Assembly elections. The phenomenon is that the tiny Sikh nation is pitted against the mighty Indian state facing continuous and multifarious attempts to contaminate and penetrate the Sikh mind, body and soul. WSN editor Jagmohan Singh lays thread-bare how Tejinder Singh Bagga is making inroads into Sikh public life and cautions Sikhs to beware of him, calling him the coronavirus to strike and harm the Sikh image.

FLAUNTING HIS AFFINITY WITH PRIME MINISTER NARENDRA MODI, rising to fame by abusing and assaulting veteran legal counsel and AAP stalwart Prashant Bhushan and getting the Bhartiya Janata Party nomination in the Delhi Assembly elections for the Sikh-populated Hari Nagar constituency, after the DSGMC president Manjinder Singh Sirsa and a few others in the past, this brash, unruly and overtly belligerent young Sikh is the newest coronavirus to harm the image of the Sikh community in Delhi and throughout the world through his tweets and rabidly communal utterances.

His stance, behaviour and language bespeak of his fascist-leaning and training at the hands his mentors in the BJP. By saying that if his party wins, he will conduct a surgical strike at Shaheen Bagh, Tejinder Singh Bagga has abused the essence of Sikhism -which is to stand up for the oppressed, notwithstanding religion, caste or creed.

Getting presence on a section of the satellite media to air his ultra-radical views, Tejinder Bagga enjoys hogging the limelight. He is under the mistaken notion that by adopting an anti-Muslim stand, he will become the darling of the masses.

Put your face masks on. Protect yourself from the Tejinder Bagga coronavirus striking the Sikh community. Keep them away. Do not get inflicted otherwise protection would be difficult.

Seeing Akalis of all hues canvassing for him is a sight which is painful for the present and dreadful for the future. They are nursing a virus which will be difficult to contain once it is allowed to grow its tentacles. It is sickening to see Sikh veterans standing up for him.

Undoubtedly, he is toeing the harsh, aggressive and hatred-filled party line but he does not understand that his ubiquitous Sikh turban holds him apart.  Sikhs in Delhi, Punjab and elsewhere do not savour his waywardness.

Contemporary Sikh history is replete with stories of the likes of the Baggas propped up from time to time to propagate anti-Sikh versions of the Indian state’s views of serious issues and concerns of the Sikh community, in a perverted attempt to give an impression that Sikhs are divided on a subject.

The reach of the state has now progressed from toadies like Rachpal Singh of the Master Tara Singh Akali Dal in the eighties of the last century to political parties like the Shiromani Akali Dal and various hues of it and the Jago Dal. Such crass shamelessness puts every Sikh to same.
