Singh Sabha Mumbai, which has taken the lead to present memoranda and other details to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, and Youth & Sports, in a letter to its chairperson -Dr Vinay P Sahasrabuddhe has sought an extension of time for submission of changes, suggestions and additions to the textbooks prescribed in curriculum across the country from the last date of 15 July 2021 to 15 September 2021, citing reasons for preoccupation with Covid19-related Sewa. SINGH SABHA MUMBAI PRESIDENT Raghbir Singh Gill, in a letter to the Thane-based Member Parliament -Dr Sahasrabuddhe, has said that “We are seized with the issue of correction in history books for a long time as there are many inaccuracies in the History books in the State of Maharashtra also.”

He mentioned that since the last three months, the premier body of Sikhs in Mumbai -Sri Guru Singh Sabha Mumbai Dadar and many other Gurdwaras were engaged in “providing relief, medical support and succour to the victims and families of the Covid19 pandemic,” and hence were unable to focus on this. 

“Singh Sabha Mumbai is coordinating work of academics, experts and students to ensure that correct information and details can be sent. It is important to correct the history books, considering that this has a lasting effect on our children’s psyche and social understanding.”

“It is imperative that time is afforded to scholars and activists, for which the last date may be extended to 15 September 2021.”

Raghbir Singh Gill pointed out that the task is monumental and therefore it is “imperative that time is afforded to scholars and activists, for which the last date may be extended to 15 September 2021.”

WSN learns that many Sikh organisations and individual activists are writing to the chairperson with the hope that the date will be extended.
