As the elections to the DSGMC continue to be uncertain, there is growing interest among politicians, with the assumption that the Covid19 situation has eased. The latest to join the bandwagon is Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukta) President Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa who has sought early DSGMC polls. WSN Delhi Desk’s Gurmeet Singh reports.

Considered close to the Jago party of Manjit Singh GK, the president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukta) and Member Parliament Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, in a letter to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has sought early DSGMC polls citing recovery from the Covid19 pandemic and massive spending by the incumbent DSGMC leadership.

Dhindsa, In his letter, says, “Elections were postponed twice because of Covid19, and now after conditions being in control and at its lowest point and favourable.”

He categorically mentions that “he has met all sections involved except the Badal Dal and everyone wants elections to be done.”

The interest shown by Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, a Rajya Sabha Member in the DSGMC elections adds another dimension to the polls which may be held within the extended period up to 29 August 2021.  In 2013 and 2017, the entire Punjab cabinet, staff and police guards camped in Delhi to ensure Badal Dal victory in the DSGMC Elections.

Till the time of writing, there has been no reaction from any religious or political party. It will be interesting to see the response of AAP’s Kejriwal, who will be on the opposite side of Dhindsa in the Punjab Assembly polls next year.
