Sikhs in Chhattisgarh aggressively pursue the Panthic agenda in all spheres and they did not lag behind when all Gurdwaras joined the movement to celebrate Guru Gobind Singh Parkash Purab on 5 January and adopt the Mool Nanakshahi Calendar.

Sikhs in Chattisgarh took the bold step of joining the movement to celebrate the Parkash Purab of Guru Gobind Singh on 5 January and also to henceforth celebrate all Gurpurabs as per the Mool Nanakshahi calendar.

This historic decision was taken at a meeting of all organizing committees of Gurdwaras of Chattishgarh, held at Gurdwara Dhan Dhan Baba Budda Ji, Telibandha, Raipur on 10 December, after all-round discussion and deliberations of various angles associated with the issue.

More than 100 representatives of various Gurdwaras expressed their determination to uphold the spirit of martyrdom in Sikhi and to observe 22-28 December as the martyrdom week during which period the martyrdom of Chaar Sahibzaade -the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh will also be observed as per Sikh traditions.

To ensure that there is no problem or confusion in the years to come, these forward-looking Gurdwara committees further resolved to celebrate all Gurpurabs as per the Mool Nanakshahi Calendar.

This is the Sangat’s decision and we will abide by it. We will celebrate the Gurpurab of the Tenth Master on 5 January every year and stop this unnecessary confusion once and for all.

Speaking exclusively to The World Sikh News, Daler Singh the general secretary of Gurdwara Dhan Dhan Baba Budda ji said, “This is the Sangat’s decision and we will abide by it. We will celebrate the Gurpurab of the Tenth Master on 5 January every year and stop this unnecessary confusion once and for all.” He also expressed deep satisfaction at the response of the Sangat and appreciated the united stand taken by all Gurdwaras on this very sensitive issue.

Two Gurdwaras have stayed away from the decision for practical reasons as they had already made many arrangements for the date announced by the Jathedars. This is the case of many Gurdwaras who would have otherwise liked to celebrate on 5 January.
