Sidhu walks the talk for peace, Modi writes, Sikhs rejoice

The editor of World Sikh News Jagmohan Singh writes an open letter of appreciation to Punjab minister and former cricketer, Navjot Singh Sidhu, for breaking ice between India and Pakistan and bringing good news about the possibility of opening of the Kartarpur corridor. He chastises those who have opposed him and urges the leader to ignore them.

Dear Navjot Singh Sidhu
Sat Sri Akaal!
Congratulations for your bold journey to Pakistan to participate in the swearing-in of your friend, cricketer-turned-politician, Imran Khan as the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic.

You have said in one interview after another that you have brought the love and blessings of the Ravi from the other side of the Radcliffe line. Actually in one masterstroke you have hit a six which has clean bowled your personal and political adversaries.

I don’t endorse your politics nor your style of politics. I don’t relish your loud comedy. Your flip flop with Sikhism has upset many a time. Your attempts to be secular are typically Indian, which may fetch votes but are difficult to digest.

Nevertheless, your hug of peace and the huge possibility of opening the Kartarpur corridor for 550 year celebrations of Guru Nanak’s birth anniversary, if it happens, will go down in history as a unique achievement of your political career and a turning point in the history of the two Punjabs.

Barking dogs seldom bite!

You need to tell it loud and clear that while you were physically in Pakistan, the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also sent a letter to the Pak Prime Minister, congratulating him and expressing a desire for peace in the sub-continent.

Those baying for your blood are lackeys of your erstwhile party who cannot tolerate that even though you went there at a personal level, your turban made you a kind of Sikh representative of the community. You made your presence and they lost the opportunity. Your turban has brought pain to them and it is ironic that the Pagdi Sambal Jatta body should oppose you. Seeing all the noise on TV,  I say, “Barking dogs seldom bite.” The confusion within your present party regarding your visit and the beautiful embrace is typical of this party’s dualism too towards Sikhs.

Who knows that you may be destined to be one of those who will be instrumental in the realisation of the daily Ardas of Sikhs for unfettered reach to Sikh historical places in the times to come.

As it happened and you too have acknowledged, Guru Sahib has blessed you during this visit. I hope this becomes a turning point in your life too, to rededicate your life and work for the glory of Sikhs and welfare of mankind. Who knows that you maybe destined to be one of those who will be instrumental in the realisation of the daily Ardas of Sikhs for unfettered reach to Sikh historical places in the times to come.
