Running a sustained day and night campaign after giving up alcoholism prior to the elections, ace comedian turned politician and AAP party Punjab president Bhagwant Mann won the elections from the Sangrur constituency for the second time defeating Kewal Singh Dhillon of the Congress Party.

Most of the AAP leadership in Punjab deserted the party and swayed here and there, some forming a new party as well, but that did not deter Bhagwant Mann from sticking to his party and to his down-to-earth campaign in his constituency Sangrur.

Significantly, he is the lone victor of the Aam Aadmi Party in the seventeenth parliament of India as the AAP party has lost elections in all the 7 seats of Delhi.

Bhagwant Singh Mann, with his Bhagat-Singh style turban, had raised substantial issues of concern in Parliament in the first term and despite irritants within the party stood steadfast with the AAP leadership.

He also defeated former finance minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa and former member of Parliament from Sangrur and Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar President Simranjit Singh Mann.
