It is of serious concern for all rights activists to learn that Matiullah Wesa, a well-known advocate for girls’ education in Afghanistan, who has been steadfast in his mission, despite the anti-education for girls atmosphere in Afghanistan, has been arrested and his whereabouts are not known.  The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan has sought his release. The all-women radio station -Sadai Banowan has been shut down. WSN stands in solidarity with Wesa, other activists and journalists incarcerated by the Taliban. The holy month of Ramzan is an appropriate opportunity to release those detained for their commitment to the welfare of Afghan society.

The ban on women’s education, the detention of Matiullah Wesa and the shutting down of radio station Sadai Banowan will not endear the Taliban to the international community.

The spokesperson for the Secretary General of the United Nations -Stéphane Dujarric, during his recent press briefing, in his reaction to the detention said, “I wanted to flag that our colleagues in Kabul, at the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, said that Matiullah Wesa, a well-known advocate for girls’ education and founder of “Pen Path”, was arrested in Kabul”.

The UN Mission in Afghanistan has called for the de facto authorities to clarify his whereabouts, and the reasons for his arrest and to ensure his access to legal representation, as well as contact with his family.

They have also said that it has been in contact with relevant de facto authorities in Kabul regarding the case of Mr. Wesa, as well as other activists and journalists who remain in detention.

While there has been international outrage on this detention, comes the news that yesterday a radio station run by women has been shut down allegedly for playing music during Ramzan, a charge that has been vehemently denied by the radio station head Najia Sarosh. Sadai Banowan -meaning -the voice of women in the Dari language -started a decade ago and was the only women-run radio station in Afghanistan.

We join world bodies in appealing to the Taliban leadership to release all activists.

The world is watching that Afghanistan has many miles to go to recover from its past and it has many more pressing issues. The Taliban may listen to the United Nations and release all activists and journalists detained heretofore. We join world bodies in appealing to the Taliban leadership to reconsider their stance on such detentions.

یک فعال آموزشی دختران افغان بازداشت شد، ایستگاه رادیویی زنان بسته شد

رای همه فعالان حقوق بشر مایه نگرانی جدی است که بدانند مطیع الله ویسا، مدافع سرشناس آموزش دختران در افغانستان، که با وجودی فضای ضدآموزشی برای دختران در افغانستان، در ماموریت خود ثابت قدم بوده است، بازداشت شده و محل نگهداری او مشخص نیست هیئت معاونت ملل متحد در افغانستان خواستار آزادی او شده است.
تمام ایستگاه رادیویی زنان -صدای بانوان تعطیل شد. World Sikh News در همبستگی با ویسا، دیگر فعالان و خبرنگاران زندانی توسط طالبان می ایستد. ماه مبارک رمضان فرصت مناسبی برای آزادی بازداشت شدگان به دلیل تعهدشان به رفاه جامعه افغانستان است.

سخنگوی دبیر کل سازمان ملل متحد، استفان دوجاریک، در نشست خبری اخیر خود در واکنش به بازداشت آقای ویسا، گفت: “می‌خواستم بگویم که همکارانمان در کابل، در ماموریت کمک از سوی سازمان ملل در افغانستان، گفتند که مطیع الله ویسا، مدافع دختران در زمینه آموزش و بنیانگذار مسیر قلم، در کابل بازداشت شده است”.

ماموریت سازمان ملل در افغانستان خواستار بیان موقعیت مکانی و دلیل بازداشت ویسا و اطمینان از دسترسی او به وکیل مدافع و تماس با خانواده‌اش شده است.
همچنین، آنها گفته‌اند که با مقامات مرتبط با دولت در کابل در مورد آقای ویسا، همچنین سایر فعالین و روزنامه نگارانی که هنوز در بازداشت هستند، تماس گرفته‌ اند.

از آنجایی که درباره این بازداشت انتقادات بین المللی وجود دارد، خبر رسید که روز گذشته یک رادیویی که توسط زنان اداره می شد به اتهام پخش موسیقی در ماه رمضان تعطیل شده است، اما رئیس رادیو صدای بانوان، ناجیه سروش، این اتهام را به شدت تکذیب کرده است. صدای بانوان که به معنای صدای زنان در زبان دری است، ده سال پیش شروع به کار کرده بود و تنها رادیویی بود که توسط زنان در افغانستان اداره می شد.

ما به نهادهای جهانی می‌پیوندیم تا از رهبری طالبان برای آزادی همه فعالان درخواست کنیم.

جهان دارد تماشا می‌کند که افغانستان از گذشته خود باید فاصله‌ای زیادی طی کند و مشکلات بیشتری دارد. طالبان ممکن است به سازمان ملل متحد گوش کند و همه فعالین و روزنامه نگارانی را که تا به حال بازداشت شده‌اند، آزاد کند. ما در تقاضای سازمان‌های جهانی همراهی می‌کنیم تا به رهبران طالبان درخواست کنیم نگرش خود را درباره این بازداشت‌ها دوباره ارزیابی کنند.
