American Sikh Council disturbed at heritage destruction in Kartarpur Sahib
Calling on the Pakistan government to maintain the lands of Guru Nanak in its natural glory, the American Sikh Council has waived the red flag for the ongoing construction of Kartarpur Sahib arena in Pakistan and sought immediate intervention at the highest levels.
The American Sikh Council has expressed dismay at the lack of responsiveness of the Pakistan government to its missives regarding the destruction of heritage in the construction sites of Kartarpur Sahib.
According to their media release, the American Sikh Council and its representatives have been pursuing the Pakistan government since December 2018 to no avail.
The American Sikh Council has condemned the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) for not putting out a single statement in reference to the preservation of the Kartarpur Sahib (Pakistan). The statement said that “the SGPC has been culpable in the destruction and modernizing of many gurdwaras in East Punjab themselves!”
The ASC has hoped that the government of Pakistan would use this opportunity to truly make its mark in the annals of religious history by using a very sensible approach of preserving the five-century-old religious site.
As Vice President of ASC Jasbir Kaur stated, “Constructing on this domain destroys the deep sanctity, the spirit of the sacred site of independent world faith and any chances of archaeological revival of the lost heritage associated with Guru Baba Nanak.”
The ASC has remarked that Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan still has an opportunity to correct this path of destruction and be remembered by every Sikh for saving and preserving the sacred legacy of the founding prophet of the Sikh faith.
