As Air Asia’s four-times-a-week flight connects Holy City Amritsar with the gateway to South East Asia -Kuala Lumpur, Amritsar Vikas Manch honours Harjinder Singh Kukreja’s work of being a powerful influencer.

On the sidelines of the launch of the four-times-a-week Air Asia’s direct flight from Holy city Amritsar to the gateway of South East Asia -Kuala Lumpur, Sikh Twitter giant Harjinder Singh Kukreja was honoured by Punjab Minister for Tourism Navjot Singh Sidhu and the Amritsar Vikas Manch.

Through his Twitter following of 1.3 million and a reach of more than 10 million, Harjinder Singh Kukreja has constantly tweeted about the need to connect Amritsar -the city of Harmandar Sahib -the Golden Temple, with the rest of the world. His mention made Amritsar one of the Forbes Best Budget destinations for 2018.

Writing in the Forbes List, based on suggestions from widely travelled bloggers, Alexandra Tatly had said, “Home to the Harmandir Sahib, or Golden Temple, Amritsar is an important spiritual and pilgrimage centre of the Sikh religion.  The north-western Indian city also boasts ornate architecture and a peek into the painful history of British colonisation.”

I am happy to partake of the blessings of Guru Ramdas Ji -the founder of the city of God’s overflowing nectar -Amritsar.

Spearheading the public campaign for international connectivity to Amritsar, Sameep Singh Gumtala and his team of the Amritsar Vikas Manch has not only been lobbying within Punjab and India but have been travelling overseas to enlist the support of Members of Parliament, Airlines and the public at large.  Their efforts have borne fruit and Amritsar should see more presence on the international air circuit.

Speaking exclusively to World Sikh News after receiving the honour in Amritsar, Harjinder Singh Kukreja said, “I am happy to partake of the blessings of Guru Ramdas Ji -the founder of the city of God’s overflowing nectar -Amritsar.”

It is indeed an honour for the young Sikh as it is for Punjab. It is a well-deserved appreciation and recognition of his countless tweets and social activism. Undoubtedly, this has been possible because of the huge social media reach of Harjinder Singh which is daily increasing by leaps and bounds.

Amritsar will emerge as the spiritual capital of the world, and I will do my best through my social media reach.

Visitors to Amritsar -to the Mecca and Vatican of the Sikhs -the Golden Temple sees a phenomenal increase year after year. This number is not of Sikhs alone but also of thousands of friends of Sikhs and those who admire the simplicity of the Sikh religion and the serene and spiritual atmosphere of Darbar Sahib. The free community kitchen -Guru Ka Langar feeding more than a hundred thousand people round the clock is yet another attraction.

“Amritsar will emerge as the spiritual capital of the world, and I will do my best through my social media reach. Sameep Singh of Amritsar Vikas Manch and all those who are part of the efforts to popularise Amritsar deserve kudos for their unstinted work. Very rarely do non-governmental organisations succeed the way AMV has.” said Harjinder Singh Kukreja.
