Brahmpura’s New Akali Dal to increase challenges to Badal Dal

Less than a month after deserting from the Shiromani Akali Dal Badal and having been subsequently removed from the party, veteran Akali leader from the Majha region of Punjab -Member of Parliament Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, along with his colleagues and associates has announced the formation of a new Akali Dal to be formally announced on 14 December 2018.

Flanked by Akali leaders Sewa Singh Sekhwan and Ranjit Singh Ajnala and others, Brahmpura made this announcement at a press conference in Amritsar saying that this formation is to counter the indifference and stupidity of leaders like Sukhbir Singh Badal and Bikramjit Singh Majithia.

He said that the new Akali Dal will be on the lines of the spirit of the body as was formed in 1920. He said that the politicalization of the SGPC, the pardon to the Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim and the Bargari and Behbal Kalan killings had demoralised the Akali workers and there was need to reinvigorate the true traditions of the Akalis.

He said that there will be special efforts to contact the Bains brothers -Balwinder Singh Bains and Simarjit Singh Bains, AAP leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira and the leadership of the Bargari Morcha and urge them to be part of the new party.

He said that the new Akali Dal would certainly have “Shiromani Akali” as part of its name and he would endeavour to bring all Taksali Akalis -the pure Akali leaders and ranks, on board. He thereby signalled that it was the Sukhbir Badal brand of politics that they were revolting against and that this would be their main plank during the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2019.

Brahmpura lauded the role of Kuldip Singh Wadala and Navjot Singh Sidhu in creating a climate for expediting the opening of the Kartarpur corridor. He also appreciated the acceptance of this long-standing Sikh demand by the Indian and Pakistan governments. He emphasized that, “the Sikh prayers for unfettered access to historical Gurdwaras” have been answered.
