Once again, Sikh Member of Parliament from Slough, UK -Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi has raised concerns about the ongoing farmers’ protests on the outskirts of Delhi. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson continues to get flak from his country for mismanagement and indecisiveness. Sikhs in the United Kingdom are angry that he will be the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations of India on 26 January this year.

TWEETING IN PUNJABI AND ENGLISH, TANMANJEET SINGH DHESI has expressed his deep concerns and that of his constituents regarding the ongoing Farmers Protest on the outskirts of Delhi.  Though he has spoken on behalf of his constituents of Slough, he has actually lent voice to the concerns of Sikhs living in the United Kingdom and even the enlarged Sikh Diaspora worldwide.

As the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson brutally failed to answer the query of Tan Dhesi on the floor of the Parliament and referred to the farmers’ issue as an Indo-Pak conflict, the tweet says that Members of Parliament, cutting across party lines, will seek his clarification about the Farmers Morcha and efforts that the British government is contemplating to take up the issue with the British government.

Members of the Sikh Diaspora are gearing up to demonstrate against Indian embassies worldwide regarding the proposed visit of the British Prime Minister. Yesterday, on the stage of the Farmers Morcha, a young activist appealed to the Diaspora to be active on the issue.

Already, in Italy and Germany, diplomats have found it difficult to use the Gurdwara platforms to air the views of the government of India on the farm bills.

His tweet in Punjabi will resonate around the Sikh world and this will enable the Sikh Diaspora to gather support for the movement against the British Prime Minister becoming a chief guest on India’s Republic Day.

Given agreement and protocols for Boris Johnson’s January India trip finalised, he’ll soon receive cross-party letter, asking to clarify his understanding of India #FarmersProtest and to raise with Indian PM hopes of speedy resolution to this huge issue.
