Cham Kaur de­poses against Saj­jan Ku­mar, jus­tice hopes alive

With the SIT on 1984 in a mood to en­sure that jus­tice is done to the vic­tim fam­i­lies of Novem­ber 1984 geno­ci­dal killings, there is news that Cham Kaur has de­posed as to how Sajjan Ku­mar was lead­ing the ma­raud­ing mobs out to kill the Sikhs. She be­comes the sec­ond woman af­ter Sheela Kaur to de­pose against Saj­jan Ku­mar. Sig­nif­i­cantly, stand­ing in the wit­ness box, she recog­nised Saj­jan Ku­mar who was pre­sent in the court­room as an ac­cused.

Her 7-page af­fi­davit in pos­ses­sion with the WSN, men­tions that she was a wit­ness to Saj­jan Ku­mar in­cit­ing the mobs and shout­ing, “Hamari Maa mar di, Sar­daron ko mar do” -They have killed our mother, Kill the Sar­dars.”

She has nar­rated how the mobs chased them on the sec­ond floor of their build­ing and snatched her son Kapoor Singh and fa­ther Sar­darji Singh and threw them down to the ground floor.

She has nar­rated that it was only af­ter the army in­ter­ven­tion that she and oth­ers in her neigh­bour­hood at the DDA Flats, near Shiv­aji Na­gar were taken to Rani Bagh re­lief camp.
