Dal Khalsa pooh-poohs Amarinder’s denial of Rajiv Gandhi’s role in ’84 killings
Castigating Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh for rubbing salt on Sikh wounds, Dal Khalsa has trashed his obnoxious claim that the then newly installed Prime Minister of India -Rajiv Gandhi, had no role to play in the organised pogrom of Sikhs in Delhi and other parts of India. Amarinder’s alibi that he was away to Bengal is nothing but bunkum, read the Dal Khalsa statement.
DAL KHALSA chastised the government of Punjab for observing the death anniversary of Akali Dal leader Harchand Singh Longowal and of former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and remarked that while the former was a traitor of the Sikh community, the latter was a killer of the Sikhs.
Party spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh, in a statement issued here today, said that the November 1984 pogrom against the Sikhs was state-sponsored and was carried out in a fully calibrated and conspiratorial manner with undeniable and proven complicity of the leaders, the administration and the police. “Who can forget that the killings and mayhem happened in November 1984 soon after Rajiv Gandhi was undemocratically sworn in as the Prime Minister of the country, along with four cabinet colleagues on 31 October 1984 at 6.45 pm.
Quoting former president Pranab Mukherjee from his book “The Turbulent Years 1980-1996”, Kanwar Pal Singh said that Rajiv arrived at the hospital at 3.15 pm on 31st October before the official announcement of the death of Mrs Indira Gandhi. Despite so much of outrage and anger against Sikhs, not a single death has been reported before Rajiv was sworn in as Prime Minister.
“A person of Rajiv Gandhi’s stature doesn’t need to be physically present to engineer the killings of thousands of Sikhs,” he pointed out.
Not only killings of Sikhs, but he also had a huge hand in the killing of Tamils in Sri Lanka too, said Kanwar Pal Singh.
He said it is a pity that Captain Amarinder Singh was defending mass murderers. “Tragically, the Punjab CM has always placed his loyalty towards the Gandhi family above that of the community,” rued Kanwar Pal Singh.
“If the United Nations intervenes for a credible probe into the November 1984 genocidal attacks, then it is probable that the truth of the involvement of Rajiv Gandhi, Narasimha Rao and other Congress party leaders will come to the fore,” said the Dal Khalsa statement.
