New Mumbai, India: As Sikhs go through an internal fight within the Gurdwara Sahib complex at Gurdwara Kharghar, police promises action, while Mumbai Sikhs unhappy at the development.

Every once in a while, from across the world, from one city or another comes the news of Sikh tussle over Gurdwara management and it saddens the Sikh community a lot. In the last two days, the matter of Gurdwara Kharghar came to a head with Sikh residents close to one group led by former President Satnam Singh, who is believed to have defrauded the Sangat, brutally manhandled Committee member Harbinder Singh and his wife for absolutely no rhyme or reason.

While Satnam Singh is absconding till last reports came in, he is believed to be close to religious and political leaders in Punjab and is infamous for his sectarian approach. In June this year, he was booked by the Navi Mumbai police under Sections 323, 342, 504 and 506 for voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful confinement and criminal intimidation. Subsequent to the case, elections were held in July last at the intervention of the Charity Commissioner, Alibaug.

Significantly there was absolutely no reason for the assault and it was only a small scuffle over some Langar matter but that was apparently a pretext to become violent as the group was unhappy at their defeat a few months back.

Till last reports came in, FIRs have been registered by both the parties. WSN is in possession of documents, videos and pictures of the assault. The police are examining CCTV footage and have assured the Sangat of booking the culprits.

Singh Sabha Mumbai, the apex body of Sikhs in Mumbai is attempting to assuage feelings and handle the situation in an amicable manner.
