Hate-mongering grows, Aamadd asks Kyun -Why, Oh Why?

 -  -  357

Steeped in the guru-shishya tradition, the Aamadd team is contemporary in outlook, universal in approach, creating original compositions with innovative patterns, their sound of music is in a genre which lovingly brings out the spontaneity in Hindustani classical music. Experimenting with sounds, their music is melodious, enjoyable, meaningful and thought-provoking.

Why is there a need to ask?
Why is it that we have become mute spectators?
Why is that we need constant reminders?
Why can’t we act?
One day in June last year as we were admiring the change in weather, these questions and more kept rattling us while discussing the world around us, living in a well lit room, with a beautiful view of the garden outside and the silent blue sky beholding us in its arms.  Inside, there was no silence. A sea full of emotions, questions seeking answers. As time progressed, we decided to unmute ourselves and break the silence and put forward the questions. There were no second thoughts of how we would do that. Our best tool of expression was our sound, our music, our composition- a song.

Keeping it very natural and sticking to our roots, a tune was born and lyrics were embedded.  Dwelling upon our training in Hindustani classical music from Vinod Sood -an exponent of the Kirana Gharana school of music, we have maintained the melody and depth of the rendition. Even the process of doing it, brought forth some questions which made us even more determined to accomplish it. The female voice behind the voice was is someone who isn’t supported to pursue what she wishes to. This was a new experiment in bringing Hindustani classical music.

“Breaking the monotony and striking new ground, we traveled afar and creativity was taken to a new height by getting a Sand Art done for the whole composition, which demystifies the whole range of Kyun.”

Another major challenge was portraying all emotions of discrimination-regional, caste, clout, gender, et al, in a manner that the audio-visual had a global appeal without depicting specific visuals.

Breaking the monotony and striking new ground, we traveled afar and creativity was taken to a new height by getting a Sand Art done for the whole composition, which demystifies the whole range of Kyun.  Luckily, world renowned sand artist, Hyderabad based Kanthrisa teamed up and made the whole composition in Sand Art for the whole composition. A master in his own right, after healthy discussions and follow-ups, we were finally able to give shape to our thoughts and emotions.

As the song was born, so was Aamadd -a journey of new music with old roots. A journey of old music with a new modern technological touch. A world of music which not just satisfies but expresses concern, raises the bar and evokes feelings, emotions and reactions far beyond the usual romanticism and helplessness.

See the world around you. In progressive Punjab, women continue to be burnt alive or commit suicide for dowry, Dalit women are assaulted for stepping on Brahmin thresholds, Nigerian girls are still with the Boko Haram, Donald Trump is attempting to wriggle-in his immigration policy annihilating internationalism, Le Pen is fostering a dangerous kind of right-wing politics in France, the political leaders in India are held more in awe than in respect, money assigned for anti-women cells in Delhi after the horrific Nirbhaya assault incident has not been utilised at all, religious fervour is being used as a political weapon and environmental damage to the Yamuna by Sri Sri Ravishankar is brushed under the carpet -the list just does not seem to end.

“It is time for all to do some soul-searching. It is time to listen, question, act and react. Take the first step, listen to the song as we want you to step forward. The journey has begun.”

Though we launched Kyun on World Human Rights Day last year, the heroine of the song, ‘BhaagBhari” keeps asking questions. Her name BhaagBhari, but, is she full of fortunes? Are we doing good for her betterment? Are we contributing in any way to society? Are we not merely talking? Are we even letting people dream?
