HEY!!! That’s a HATE channel, this is Indian Express – but what’s the difference?
Hate is in the air. From India to Israel and elsewhere. Hate against any people -depending upon which side of the fence you are. The ubiquitous, ostensibly free YouTube Channels are no less spirited in their zeal to spread hatred than their satellite avatars in spreading hate. In India, going a step ahead of the right-wing Bharatiya Janata Party government, siding with Israel, two self-anointed experts -one a former diplomat and one a senior journalist -have spewed venom, giving competition on the slate of hate to those in India who are spreading hate on the streets, in the Mohallas of central India and in the Indian Parliament. WSN takes note.
India’s “Diplomat & Diplomacy Expert” Deepak Vohra did some back-of-the-envelope calculations and found a solution that he announced on prime-time television – with the anchor nodding approvingly.
Kill 10 lakh Palestinian children for every 1,000 Israeli children killed – flatten Gaza.
You can watch him dispensing such wisdom here. Do not forget to see the overwhelming nod of the anchor.
Now, Indian Express’ columnist for almost three decades and a frequent peddler of hate, Tavleen Singh, is peddling pure anti-Muslim hatred. She is not some Monu Manesar, not some random self-proclaimed Gau Rakshak lynching a Muslim under the garb of cattle smuggler accusations. This is hatred in its most sly form – being peddled directly into the minds of ‘educated’, English-speaking young Indians who want to see their country becoming ‘great’.
You can read her latest column here:
Tavleen Singh writes: Does Israel have a choice but to fight for its right to exist?
Very recently, she had openly advocated extra-judicial killings in foreign territories.
“If Israel can get away with killing its enemies in foreign countries, then why not us.”
The Indian Express has CLEARLY DECIDED to become a vehicle of HATE.
This year, the Guardian newspaper looked back 150 years to introspect how it was part of supporting slavery, and often not backing abolition to the extent it should/could have. The time for reckoning for Indian journalism will not take that long.
By the way, kudos also to the Indian Express, for Suraj Yengde’s column today – “On Israel & Palestine…” – but that does not absolve it of the serious sin of becoming a vehicle of hate for purveyors of hate, if not purveyor of hate itself.
