In­dia cel­e­brates In­de­pen­dence, Dal Khalsa ob­serves Black Day

As In­dia cel­e­brated In­de­pen­dence, hun­dreds of ac­tivists of Dal Khalsa, Shi­ro­mani Akali Dal Am­rit­sar, Sikh Youth of Pun­jab and Sikh Fed­er­a­tion staged a street protest in Moga, call­ing 15 Au­gust as Black Day. Ac­tivists car­ry­ing black flags and ban­ners de­nounced Bar­garhi sac­ri­lege, Be­hbal Ka­han fir­ing and Pun­jab gov­ern­men­t’s at­tempts to al­low the guilty to go scot-free, po­lit­i­cal sub­ju­ga­tion of Pun­jab, hu­man rights vi­o­la­tions and de­nial of right to self-de­ter­mi­na­tion for the peo­ple of Pun­jab. 

Amidst chant­ing of slo­gans like ‘Sikhs want Azaadi from In­dia’, party head Harpal Singh Cheema said, “It has been 71 long years since In­dia got free­dom, but noth­ing has changed for Sikhs and other re­li­gious and eth­nic mi­nori­ties
