As the community continues to take a sincere interest in the transformation and development of Sikligar Sikhs, there is a leap in educational endeavours for them. Professional content writer and WSN correspondent Kamaljeet Singh reports from Jaipur where the Gurmat Gian Group honoured Sikligar youth for academic performance and professional excellence, despite all odds.

In a recently held heartwarming ceremony at Gurdwara Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib at Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar, Jhalana Doongri, the Gurmat Gian Group celebrated the exceptional achievements of a score of Sikligar Sikh youth who have set remarkable benchmarks in various spheres. The event served as a testament to their dedication, resilience, and the transformative power of mentorship.

These young individuals were recognized for their diverse accomplishments. Among the honorees were brilliant students who secured scores good grades in the X and XII examinations, underscoring their commitment to academic excellence.

Talking to WSN, Jasbeer Singh who is teaching Gurmukhi and has organized many other facilities for Sikligar Sikh children in Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar, Jhalana Doongri, for the last two decades, said, “It was not an easy road to teach and inspire. We saw ups and downs while managing various things; from teaching Gurmukhi and asking parents and students to pursue their studies. We could not do it alone. But for the support of parents, it would not have been possible.”

A deaf and dumb special child Priya Kaur and her parents won the hearts of the Sangat. Despite her handicap, this brave child has emerged as a role model for Sikligar children who shy away from studies as she has completed her schooling and is now pursuing her graduation.

In the lineup of trailblazers was the first Sikligar Sikh Advocate from Jaipur -Randhir Singh, whose legal acumen is enabling him to practice law in the Jaipur District courts and the High Court at Jaipur. He is always keen to take up public interest cases and assist his community and others in need of legal advice.

Kuljeet Singh has emerged as a shining star in hockey, whose exceptional skills on the field have garnered attention and admiration. He is now serving in the Rajasthan Police, having been selected in the sports quota.

Remarkably, there were also Sikligar Sikh girls who achieved the extraordinary feat of completing double Masters’s degrees in diverse fields, a testament to their intellectual prowess and determination. Gurmel Kaur has completed her B.Ed and has qualified REET (Rajasthan Eligibility Examination for Teachers).  Arvind Kaur has completed BA and M.Com. Kuljeet Kaur completed her double MA, even after her marriage, which is a rarity amongst Sikligars.

This writer was also praised for being the first Sikligar content writer and journalist from Jaipur. Gurmat Gian Group thanked World Sikh News for sharing the proceedings of the function live on social media.

Talking to this correspondent after the function, Advocate Randhir Singh said, “I desire to see Sikligars in various fields and look forward to the day when many more students are honoured as we were felicitated today.”

Hockey has caught the fancy of the Jaipur Sikligar youth, particularly those from Ganeshpuri Galta Gate dera in Jaipur.

Abhishek Singh and his younger brother Amit Singh are two-time silver medallists, having won a silver medal 51st National Khel Kood Pratiyogita 2022 and another in the under-15 Nehru Cup at the 13th Hockey Sub Junior State Champion in 2022. Rajit Singh is a gold medallist in the Junior State Championship and a silver medalist in the Sub Junior State Championship.

Hockey has caught the fancy of the Jaipur Sikligar youth, particularly those from Ganeshpuri Galta Gate dera in Jaipur.

Parveen Singh, Kuljeet Singh, and Kulveer Singh are senior hockey players. All of them are three-time gold and silver medallists in State Championships during three successive years -2017, 2018, and 2019 including the Sub Junior National Hockey Championship.

The ceremony held a special segment to laud those who clinched gold medals in the recently held First National Sikh Marshal Art Gatka competition in Assam, where they showcased their skills and prowess.

A deaf and dumb special child Priya Kaur and her parents won the hearts of the Sangat. Despite her handicap, this brave young lady has emerged as a role model for Sikligar children who shy away from studies, as she has completed her schooling and is now pursuing her graduation.

Sukhveer Singh won a bronze medal while Simran Kaur was a gold medallist in the Single Sotee (stick) event.

Diya Kaur achieved 84% marks in XII Arts. Rajveer Singh from Malviya Nagar dera, obtained 79% marks in XII Science. Rajveer Singh is the first Sikligar student from Jaipur to pursue his B.Tech.

Soni Kaur got 76 % in XII Arts, whereas Gungun Kaur got 68 % marks in the same class. Talvinder Singh obtained 65% marks in Class X and Anchal Kaur scored 66 %.

At the heart of these successes lies dedicated mentors who have played pivotal roles in nurturing and guiding these outstanding youth. Jasbeer Singh, with over two decades of unwavering commitment, has been imparting Gurmat teachings and mentorship to Sikligar Sikh children.

“It was not an easy road to teach and inspire. We saw ups and downs while managing various things; from teaching Gurmukhi and asking parents and students to pursue their studies. We could not do it alone. But for the support of parents, it would not have been possible.”

Another stalwart, Harjinder Singh, has provided unwavering support to budding hockey players for over 15 years, nurturing their talents and aspirations.

The grand event witnessed the esteemed presence of prominent Sikh personalities of the Pink City Jaipur, including Ajaypal Singh Rajendra Singh Sethi, Harvinder Singh Pappu, Jagjeet Singh Suri, Jasveer Singh, Manjeet Singh Chadha, and other members of Gurmat Gian Group. Their participation added a sense of gravitas to the ceremony, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and supporting young talent within the community.

Gurmat Gian Group and its associates are dedicated to fostering an environment where young minds can flourish, thrive, and contribute positively to society. The event stands as a beacon of inspiration, urging Sikligar Sikh youth across the country to break barriers and chase their dreams.

Gurmat Gian Group Honours Sikligar Sikhs

The felicitation program was a big boost to young Sikligar children. Maybe next year we will see more Sikligars pursuing education and other professional and sporting careers.
