Leadership tussle brings DSGMC working to a halt

DSGMC leadership spills over with no end in sight. It brings out the weaknesses of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Act as well as the nonchalance of the Sikhs in Delhi barring a few small noises by social activists.

When will the next executive committee of the DSGMC be held? Who will be the next president? Are the corruption charges against Manjit Singh GK only? Are both Manjit Singh GK and Manjinder Singh Sirsa putting up a brave face as a face saving strategy?

Since the temporary dissolution of the DSGMC executive committee two weeks ago, Manjit Singh GK is incommunicado. Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Harmeet Singh Kalkaji are running the “show.”

A notice for a meeting as per the directions of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee was announced to be held on 30 December yesterday but was suddenly put off within a few hours.

Sources tell WSN that Manjinder Singh Sirsa has been pondering over the provisions of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Act to plan his next moves. The Shiromani Akali Dal is fully involved with meetings with members of the DSGMC having been held at the Delhi residence of Akali Member Parliament Prem Singh Chandumajra.  It is also learnt that Sukhbir Singh Badal too had meetings with some DSGMC executive members in Sirhind.

The Badal Dal won the DSGMC elections on an anti-corruption plank against Delhi Akali Dal led by Paramjit Singh Sarna, but now it is itself embroiled in various corruption charges. Paramjit Singh Sarna has sought fresh elections to the general house of the DSGMC as the leadership stalemate does not seem to be ending.

DSGMC-run institutions –schools, colleges and hospitals still look up to their political leadership for support and patronage, with many facing a cash crunch and a strong bold leadership deficit.

In the house of 46 members meant to manage the affairs of the historical and other affiliated Gurdwaras in Delhi, who will the least dishonest is the question that the Badal leadership is looking at. DSGMC has come to a standstill.
