Lok Insaaf Party seeks central status for Guru Nanak Dev University
In a memorandum submitted to the BJP government, Lok Insaaf Party has sought the transformation of Amritsar-based Guru Nanak Dev University as a central university.
Lok Insaaf Party legislator of the Punjab Assembly from Ludhiana Simarjeet Singh Bains met Union minister Vijay Sampla and submitted a memorandum seeking central university status for Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar on the auspicious occasion of the 550 year birth anniversary celebrations of the First Master Guru Nanak Sahib.
Addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and to Human Resources Development Minister Prakash Javedkar, the submission sought that Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar be transformed into a Central University on the pattern of Banaras Hindu University, Aligarh Muslim University and Goa University. He said that this could be an appropriate gift by the government on the occasion of the 550 year celebrations of Guru Nanak Sahib.
“To make education meaningful and easily affordable for the common man, the Central University status can be helpful for the migrant students as well as for those living in the border areas of Amritsar and Gurdaspur”, said Simarjeet Singh Bains while speaking to The World Sikh News about his proposal.
