To protest the broad daylight murder of Tripura State Rifles personnel Subedar Mark Hasin Jamatia -Assistant Commandant and Nayak Subedar Kiran Kumar Jamatia by a Bangladeshi rifleman of TSR -Sukanta Das, the Tripura People’s Front has called for a one-day Tripura Bandh on 6 December. Tripura People’s Front leader Patal Kanya Jamatia has appealed to the Twiprassa people to ensure a full All-Tripura Bandh “so that the spirit and aspirations are known to the world and truth will fall on the deaf ears of the government of India and Tripura.” WSN reports.

The Tripura People’s Front, which recently announced that it had decided to become a political party to fight for the rights of the Twiprasa indigenous Borok people, has strongly condemned the killing of two security personnel who were of indigenous origin, early morning yesterday within a police complex.

Party leader Patal Kanya Jamatia, speaking to the media from Delhi, where she has come for a protest demonstration on 6 December, has said, “Whose duty is to protect the security of the people -if the security staff is not safe, then how will they protect the general population? What more can be said about the tragedy of Tripura today? What is most disturbing is that this is not the story of today, it is part of the continuing litany of the last 72 years. The Twiprassa Borok people are living the life of victims of state terror in one form or another.”

A devastated Patal Kanya Jamatia on her YouTube broadcast said, “I am in tears for my people. The reason being advanced by the administration that the attack was related to the junior seeking leave is fake and false. This is the murder of our people and we will not take this lying down. The guilty must be court-martialled and there should be quick justice. Of course, the full ends of justice will be served when the culprit is brought to book through an immediate trial.”

“We will bring Tripura to a halt on 6 December 2021 against these murders and the climate of rape, gang rape, torture and harassment.”

“If a rifleman can have the guts to kill two of his superiors is a clear indication of how much power the Bangladeshis are wielding in the state machinery. The present BJP government in Tripura has converted it into a police state with the mantra of state terrorism at the hands of Bangladeshi infiltrators in the administration and public life of the state.”

Speaking to World Sikh News, Patal Kanya Jamatia said, “We had demanded the ouster of the BJP government and imposition of President’s rule in Tripura for the main reason that the law and order situation has deteriorated beyond repair. The recent killings have proved this.”

Denouncing the paltry sum of Rs. 5 lakhs announced as compensation by the BJP chief minister Biplab Deb, the party statement said, “This amount is peanuts and the TPF rejects it. The families of the victims must be given exemplary compensation of Rs. 5 crores each and two jobs per family.  This is the least that the government can do.

Talking history, Patal Kanya listed two earlier incidents too.  She narrated that, Tripura Civil Services officer Sukhram Debarma was killed by the Bangladeshi mafia in the capital city Agartala -nobody was accused, nobody was arrested and there was no justice in the matter. Similarly, TCS cadre officer Sashimohan Debarma was hanged in his room. No justice was done and it was dismissed as a suicide.

Taking a pot shot at the Tripura Motha leadership -known for its Greater Tipraland demand, who have been talking about creating the fear of communal tension, Patal Kanya said, “the leadership of the Tripura Motha and BJP are talking about creating the fear of communal tension. It is time for the people of Tripura to respond to this fallacious narrative.”

“For 72 years, we are victims of fake suicide, fake accidents, fake incidents, rape, gang rape, murder and more but no justice to the Twiprassa people.  Nobody is taking the right step. Even today, instead of talking about justice and peace, they are confusing the issue.”

Tripura People Front volunteers have been moving the length and breadth of the state appealing to the people of the state to observe a 12-hour strike on 6 December 2021.
