Punjabi enthusiasts make fervent appeal to voters and leaders
Punjabi language enthusiasts of the Punjabi Bhasha Pasar Bhaichara make fervent appeals to the electorate to vote for only those candidates who promise not only to respect mother-tongue Punjabi but also make serious efforts to get the language its due in Punjab.
The Punjabi Bhasha Pasar Bhaichara has been working overtime since the last few weeks by writing to all contesting candidates to show their respect for Punjabi and their commitment to ensuring that the language would get its due in Punjab as well as in Central government institutions.
Mahinder Singh Sekhon, the assistant coordinator of the group informed media that they sent letters to many political parties and except Ludhiana candidate Simarjeet Singh Bains, no one has bothered to reply to them and declared his commitment to the use and growth of the language.
He added that since the last 71 years, the Punjabi language is facing genocidal policies of the state. He lamented that Punjabi does not even get the status which other languages are provided in their parent states.
Activists of the body have been putting up posters and billboards urging people to vote for those candidates who respect Punjabi.
