The general house of the SGPC -the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee re-appointed Gobind Singh Longowal as president for another term amidst walkout by the Panthic Front led by Sukhdev Singh Bhaur. He is the 42nd President of this august body of the Sikhs.

Despite concerns expressed by Sikhs from across the Sikh world regarding the undemocratic nature of the nominations, the Badal Dal leadership disregarded all of it and performed the ritual of the party leadership nominating “the chosen one”, followed by Jaikaras of acceptance, without discussion and debate.

SGPC Members Kiranjot Kaur and Balwinder Singh Bains who attempted to voice their concerns on Panthic issues were not allowed to speak. While some members attempted to snatch the microphone from her, concluding prayers -Anand Sahib were started to stall her from continuing her speech.
