Rit­ual per­formed, Lon­gowal SGPC pres­i­dent, Sikh con­cerns be damned

The gen­eral house of the SGPC -the Shi­ro­mani Gur­d­wara Par­band­hak Com­mit­tee re-ap­pointed Gob­ind Singh Lon­gowal as pres­i­dent for an­other term amidst walk­out by the Pan­thic Front led by Sukhdev Singh Bhaur. He is the 42nd Pres­i­dent of this au­gust body of the Sikhs.

De­spite con­cerns ex­pressed by Sikhs from across the Sikh world re­gard­ing the un­de­mo­c­ra­tic na­ture of the nom­i­na­tions, the Badal Dal lead­er­ship dis­re­garded all of it and per­formed the rit­ual of the party lead­er­ship nom­i­nat­ing “the cho­sen one”, fol­lowed by Jaikaras of ac­cep­tance, with­out dis­cus­sion and de­bate.

SGPC Mem­bers Ki­ran­jot Kaur and Bal­winder Singh Bains who at­tempted to voice their con­cerns on Pan­thic is­sues were not al­lowed to speak. While some mem­bers at­tempted to snatch the mi­cro­phone from her, con­clud­ing prayers -Anand Sahib were started to stall her from con­tin­u­ing her speech.

SGPC President

Pres­i­dent Gob­ind Singh Lon­gowal said his prime con­cern would be to cel­e­brate the 550 year birth an­niver­sary of Guru Nanak Sahib all around the globe.
