Satsang Guru Nanak Darbar Trust Delhi Empowers Top Girl Students
In a laudable display of commitment to education and gender equality, Satsang Guru Nanak Darbar Trust, established under the aegis of Gurdwara Satsang Guru Nanak Darbar, at a recent function in Delhi honoured female students for academic excellence. Upholding the revered dictum of Sarbat da Bhala and following up on the call of Jathedar Akal Takht to Gurdwaras to contribute resources for education out of Sangat offerings for education, the trust bestowed a commendable service to society, distributing high-end laptops to 26 deserving girl students, fostering digital inclusivity and empowerment. Hailing from economically weaker sections and having attained an impressive score of 85% or above in the CBSE Class XII examinations of 2022-23, young aspirants from the Science, Commerce, and Humanities faculties were celebrated for their academic excellence and perseverance at a recently held function in Delhi. The Satsang Guru Nanak Darbar Trust made this possible through the initiative taken by the Satsang Guru Nanak Darbar to allocate 5 percent of the contributions of the Sangat for education purposes and funding under the CSR initiative by the corporate sector.

Speaking to WSN, former Major General Partap Singh, editor of The Sikh Review, remarked, “This event isn’t just about distributing gadgets. It’s a testament to the community’s commitment to progress, equality, and empowering the next generation.”
The charismatic Charanjit Singh -the sheet anchor of this initiative, speaking to the World Sikh News, shared his sentiments, saying “In the era of digitalization, such endeavours not only uplift the downtrodden but also help bridge the vast chasm of the digital divide. It’s a proud moment for us and a bright one for these brilliant students.”

“It would be a commendable and socially responsible initiative if Gurdwaras and other religious bodies chose to spare funds for empowering and supporting students in different ways. Such a gesture aligns with the principles of charity, community support, and education that many religious organizations promote,” he added.
Eminent personalities like Retd Justice G. S. Sistani and Talwant Singh of Delhi High Courts, Dr Charan Singh, Chairman of Punjab & Sind Bank, and social activist Kamaaljit Singh emphasized the urgency of computing skills in today’s age. They championed the cause of equipping students with the necessary tools for their academic and professional journeys.
Dr Charan Singh, Chairman of Punjab and Sind Bank, speaking to the awardees and the Sangat said, “For student empowerment, educational institutions are embracing technology by providing laptops to their students. This initiative by the trust and the Gurdwara Sahib associated with it will bridge the digital divide and equip meritorious and deserving students with essential tools for learning and growth in today’s digital age.”
One of the toppers Prabhjot Kaur, speaking to WSN said, “This is a giant leap for us. We are grateful. Laptops offer a multitude of benefits, from facilitating access to a wealth of online educational resources to promoting digital literacy and skill development. This investment will empower students to become informed, innovative, and tech-savvy individuals.”
Commerce awardee Azima Khatoon said, “I am indeed on top of the world. I cannot thank you more. It’s a step forward in creating a more equitable and digitally proficient generation, laying the foundation for a brighter and more inclusive future.”
Abha Rawat of the Humanities faculty had tears rolling down her cheek in gratitude and in the hope of excelling in education in the years to come.
Social activist Kamaaljit Singh said, “Granting students access to laptops will not only foster equal opportunities but also prepare students for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in an increasingly technology-driven world.”
Simratbir Singh, a representative of the trust, spoke passionately about the initiative, stating, “With this initiative, we are taking another significant step towards empowering young women to chase their dreams and carve a future filled with opportunities.”
He called upon both the Sangat and corporate entities to contribute to projects aimed at educating underprivileged students, thus fostering a more equitable learning environment.
