Shi­ro­mani Akali Dal (Sanyukta) Pres­i­dent Dhindsa bats for DS­GMC polls

As the elec­tions to the DS­GMC con­tinue to be un­cer­tain, there is grow­ing in­ter­est among politi­cians, with the as­sump­tion that the Covid19 sit­u­a­tion has eased. The lat­est to join the band­wagon is Shi­ro­mani Akali Dal (Sanyukta) Pres­i­dent Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa who has sought early DS­GMC polls. WSN Delhi Desk’s Gurmeet Singh re­ports.

Con­sid­ered close to the Jago party of Man­jit Singh GK, the pres­i­dent of the Shi­ro­mani Akali Dal (Sanyukta) and Mem­ber Par­lia­ment Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, in a let­ter to Delhi Chief Min­is­ter Arvind Ke­jri­wal has sought early DS­GMC polls cit­ing re­cov­ery from the Covid19 pan­demic and mas­sive spend­ing by the in­cum­bent DS­GMC lead­er­ship.

Dhindsa, In his let­ter, says, “Elec­tions were post­poned twice be­cause of Covid19, and now af­ter con­di­tions be­ing in con­trol and at its low­est point and favourable.”

He cat­e­gor­i­cally men­tions that “he has met all sec­tions in­volved ex­cept the Badal Dal and every­one wants elec­tions to be done.”

The in­ter­est shown by Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, a Ra­jya Sabha Mem­ber in the DS­GMC elec­tions adds an­other di­men­sion to the polls which may be held within the ex­tended pe­riod up to 29 Au­gust 2021.  In 2013 and 2017, the en­tire Pun­jab cab­i­net, staff and po­lice guards camped in Delhi to en­sure Badal Dal vic­tory in the DS­GMC Elec­tions. 

Till the time of writ­ing, there has been no re­ac­tion from any re­li­gious or po­lit­i­cal party. It will be in­ter­est­ing to see the re­sponse of AAP’s Ke­jri­wal, who will be on the op­po­site side of Dhindsa in the Pun­jab As­sem­bly polls next year.
