Sikh activists detained and released in Amritsar, political inquisition on

Taking full advantage of the opportunity that arose out of the bomb blast at village Adilwal in Amritsar, the Punjab police in the districts of Amritsar and Batala has started questioning the activists of Dal Khalsa, the Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Jatha, the the Sikh Youth of Punjab and Jatha Sirlath. Most of those detained have been released but one after the other, the series of summoning and enquiries goes on.

Gurjant Singh of Dal Khalsa, Prof. Paramjit Singh Mand of the Sikh Youth of Punjab, Ranjit Singh and Daljit Singh Bobby of Sikh Youth Federation Bhindranwale and Bhupinder Singh Himmat-e-Khalsa were detained yesterday and let off late in the evening. Today Gurinder Jeet Singh of Dal Khalsa was interrogated and released in the evening. These are age-old tactics of the Punjab police and they do not seem to have learnt or unlearnt anything in the last few decades while dealing with the Punjab problem.

Dal Khalsa spokesperson Kanwarpal Singh in a sharp reaction to the detentions has said that, “that undue harassment to the youth group of the Dal Khalsa continued today for the second consecutive day.”

“It is not only surprising but shocking that as has been clarified by all of those were detained and released that no question was asked about the Amritsar bomb blast.” said Kanwarpal Singh.

All those detained were questioned about their personal and professional lives and their mobile phones were scanned for calls made and received. In the case of Gurinder Jeet Singh, his phone has been retained by the police authorities in Amritsar. There seems to be a lot of undue pressure by the National Investigation Agency on the Punjab police going by the manner in which the arrests are being conducted.

“It is really upsetting that these detentions are meant to create a fear psychosis in the minds of the families of those detained and an attempt to overawe them to stay away from their political activities.” said the party spokesperson.

“No amount of veiled threats will deter us from continuing our mission for upholding the flag of Sikh rights for the Khalsa Panth reiterated.”  Kanwarpal Singh.
