Sikh Germans reject Bikrami, adopt Nanakshahi, Gurpurab 5 January
German Gurdwaras unanimously decide to hold Gurpurab celebrations on 5 January and adopt Mool Nanakshahi Calendar.
Sikh Germans from all Gurdwara bodies of Germany have unanimously decided to celebrate Guru Gobind Singh Gurdwara on 5 January and adopt the Mool Nanakshahi calendar in toto.
In a press note issued by Gurcharan Singh Goraya of the Gurdwara Sikh Centre Frankfurt and widely circulated on social media, ten Gurdwara bodies in Germany have unitedly taken the decision to celebrate the occasion as per Mool Nanakshahi Calendar. The press note says, “Communities can be given a death blow by destroying their principles and making them mental slaves. The attempt of Jathedars to turn the Nanakshahi calendar Bikrami under the influence of the RSS is a black note in contemporary Sikh history. Such attempts at enslaving the community have to be defeated altogether.”
The Gurdwaras who have agreed to the decision are Gurdwara Sri Guru Dashmesh Singh Sabha Cologne, Gurdwara Sikh Centre Frankfurt, Gurdwara Stuttgart, Gurdwara Leipzig, Gurdwara Neonburg, Gurdwara Regensburg, Gurdwara Oxberg, Gurdwara Guru Teg Bahadur Cologne, Gurdwara Munich, Singh Sabha Germany and Singh Sabha Frankfurt.
