Singh Sabha Raipur seeks Akal Takht action in Giani Amrik Singh attack
EXCLUSIVE: Exhausted by the silence of the main bodies of the Sikhs, Nirmal Singh, the President of the Singh Sabha Raipur speaks up against the attack on Giani Amrik Singh Chandigarh and seeks immediate intervention of Akal Takht Sahib.
Taking a lead over the premier bodies of the Sikhs, Nirmal Singh, the President of the Singh Sabha Raipur, Chhattisgarh condemns the dastardly attack on Giani Amrik Singh and equates the culprits with Mannu -the historic slayer of the Sikhs who slaughtered the Sikhs in the eighteenth century.
5 days ago, a stellar preacher of the Sikh community Giani Amrik Singh was brutally assaulted within the precincts of Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha Park Avenue Chandigarh, where he had been preaching since 1998.
While Sikhs are angry with the assault, the one thing which has offended them most is that the culprits removed his turban, hurling the highest insult that can be meted out to a Sikh.
“We have earlier also written letters to Akal Takht for intervention. After the meeting we will be writing again and will see that those responsible are punished and such incidents do not recur”
As the leaders of the Sikh community have been stunned into self-imposed silence, the Singh Sangat has been vocal in condemning the incident and seeking not only an apology but also declaring the culprits as tankhaiya.
Speaking exclusively on the phone line from Raipur, Nirmal Singh said, “We are holding a meeting of our Sangat tomorrow for the Chardikala of the Panth.” He sounded very perturbed and said, “We have earlier also written letters to Akal Takht for intervention. After the meeting we will be writing again and will see that those responsible are punished and such incidents do not recur.”
He appealed to all Sikh bodies and responsible leaders of the community to ensure that such incidents are not repeated in the future as it mars the reputation of the Sikhs and is “utterly disgraceful.”
Gurminder Singh Chottu ji -senior leader from Raipur, speaking to WSN said, “This is unacceptable. We can have all kinds of differences, but stooping so low and removing the turban of a Sikh and that too of a respectable scholar cannot be tolerated.”
Is anyone listening?
