He is the newest chip in the block of In­dian state­craft us­ing a tur­baned Sikh to harm Sikh im­age through his gross abuse of Mus­lims and a cross-sec­tion of the Sikh com­mu­nity. He is be­ing nur­tured by the state ap­pa­ra­tus to make in­roads into the Sikh fold and the lat­est move is his can­di­da­ture in the Delhi As­sem­bly elec­tions. The phe­nom­e­non is that the tiny Sikh na­tion is pit­ted against the mighty In­dian state fac­ing con­tin­u­ous and mul­ti­far­i­ous at­tempts to con­t­a­m­i­nate and pen­e­trate the Sikh mind, body and soul. WSN ed­i­tor Jag­mo­han Singh lays thread-bare how Tejin­der Singh Bagga is mak­ing in­roads into Sikh pub­lic life and cau­tions Sikhs to be­ware of him, call­ing him the coro­n­avirus to strike and harm the Sikh im­age.

FLAUNT­ING HIS AFFIN­ITY WITH PRIME MIN­IS­TER NAREN­DRA MODI, ris­ing to fame by abus­ing and as­sault­ing vet­eran le­gal coun­sel and AAP stal­wart Prashant Bhushan and get­ting the Bhar­tiya Janata Party nom­i­na­tion in the Delhi As­sem­bly elec­tions for the Sikh-pop­u­lated Hari Na­gar con­stituency, af­ter the DS­GMC pres­i­dent Man­jin­der Singh Sirsa and a few oth­ers in the past, this brash, un­ruly and overtly bel­liger­ent young Sikh is the newest coro­n­avirus to harm the im­age of the Sikh com­mu­nity in Delhi and through­out the world through his tweets and ra­bidly com­mu­nal ut­ter­ances.

His stance, be­hav­iour and lan­guage be­speak of his fas­cist-lean­ing and train­ing at the hands his men­tors in the BJP. By say­ing that if his party wins, he will con­duct a sur­gi­cal strike at Sha­heen Bagh, Tejin­der Singh Bagga has abused the essence of Sikhism -which is to stand up for the op­pressed, notwith­stand­ing re­li­gion, caste or creed.

Get­ting pres­ence on a sec­tion of the satel­lite me­dia to air his ul­tra-rad­i­cal views, Tejin­der Bagga en­joys hog­ging the lime­light. He is un­der the mis­taken no­tion that by adopt­ing an anti-Mus­lim stand, he will be­come the dar­ling of the masses.

Put your face masks on. Pro­tect your­self from the Tejin­der Bagga coro­n­avirus strik­ing the Sikh com­mu­nity. Keep them away. Do not get in­flicted oth­er­wise pro­tec­tion would be dif­fi­cult.

See­ing Akalis of all hues can­vass­ing for him is a sight which is painful for the pre­sent and dread­ful for the fu­ture. They are nurs­ing a virus which will be dif­fi­cult to con­tain once it is al­lowed to grow its ten­ta­cles. It is sick­en­ing to see Sikh vet­er­ans stand­ing up for him.

Un­doubt­edly, he is toe­ing the harsh, ag­gres­sive and ha­tred-filled party line but he does not un­der­stand that his ubiq­ui­tous Sikh tur­ban holds him apart.  Sikhs in Delhi, Pun­jab and else­where do not savour his way­ward­ness.

The reach of the state has now pro­gressed from toad­ies like Rach­pal Singh of the Mas­ter Tara Singh Akali Dal in the eight­ies of the last cen­tury to po­lit­i­cal par­ties like the Shi­ro­mani Akali Dal and var­i­ous hues of it and the Jago Dal. Such crass shame­less­ness puts every Sikh to same.
