In his typical style, goodwill messenger Harjinder Singh Kukreja celebrates his voyage to Malaysia on the maiden direct flight from Amritsar to Kuala Lumpur by meeting Indian High Commissioner Mridul Kumar and presenting a portrait of Guru Nanak. He is on a life mission to generate interest in Guru Nanak -the great traveller, who founded the Sikh religion and preached honest labour, gratitude to God and sharing.
Traveling on the maiden direct flight of Air Asia from Amritsar to Kuala Lumpur, Harjinder Singh Kukreja from Ludhiana landed up to meet Indian High Commissioner Mridul Kumar and presented him a specially commissioned portrait of Guru Nanak.
Accompanied by his son Rehras Singh, goodwill messenger Harjinder Singh Kukreja put in action his plans to take the message of Guru Nanak far and wide.
Speaking to media, Kukreja said, “As the Sikh world is planning to celebrate the upcoming 550-year celebrations of the birth anniversary of the founder of Sikhism, I was happy to create awareness about the upcoming historical milestone in my humble way in this Southeast Asian country which has an overwhelming Sikh presence.”
“Thank you for bringing Babaji to our High Commission. We have over a vibrant Sikh community in Malaysia. We will celebrate the upcoming Guruparb in a grand way. – Mridul Kumar, Indian High Commissioner to Malaysia”
Recently India’s External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj had publicly declared that the Central Government will commemorate the historic occasion in all major Indian missions.
Kukreka apprised the media that the Indian diplomat Mridul Kumar welcomed him and said, “Thank you for bringing Babaji to our High Commission. We have over 100 Gurdwaras and a vibrant Sikh community in Malaysia with whom the High Commission enjoys a great relationship. We will definitely celebrate the upcoming Guruparb with them in a grand way.”
“I wish to follow the path of Guru Nanak in my endeavour to be a world traveller in modern times”
Taking on the mantle of spreading awareness across the globe, city restauranteur and social activist Kukreja has traveled to many countries and in the near future would be visiting Kazakhstan, Turkey and Cuba and will visit Indian embassies there and interact with local communities.
The world knows about Guru Nanak as the founder of Sikhism and a religious reformer but knows very little about his travels. “Guru Nanak was a great traveler who walked on foot many parts of the then accessible world in the fifteenth century, propagating the mission of love, peace and humanitarianism. I wish to follow the path of the great Guru in my endeavour to be a world traveller in modern times” said Kukreja outlining his life mission.
