In an unprecedented move, expressing his full determination to fight the Covid19 spread, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his second broadcast to the people of India has announced a complete lockdown for 21 days in the length and breadth of the vast country.

REPEATING HIS APPEAL MANY TIMES OVER, citing reports of the World Health Organisation, he cautioned that even a healthy-looking person can spread the Covid19 even after a long time gap and urged the people not to cross the lakshman rekha -the boundary line of their households for the next 21 days.

He cited the WHO statistic that the first hundred thousand people were infected with Coronavirus in 67 days, the next hundred thousand in the next 11 days and then the next hundred in the next 4 days and therefore we have to stay home.

He said that the only hope is to stay indoors as has been demonstrated by some countries where the citizens followed the directions of the government to stay indoors. He repeated again and again, “There is no option. Everyone from the Prime Minister to the common person in the villages has to stay indoors.” He cautioned that any letup during these 21 days will push us back by 21 years.

“We have to break the stage of the spread of the virus. Today, our actions will determine whether we are determined to stop the spread of the virus.”

“Jaan hai to Jahan hai”  – if there is life, there is social life. I urge you with folded hands to pray for those who are fulfilling their duties -the doctors, the nurses, the paramedical staff, the ambulance staff, the sanitation workers, the pathological staff who are fighting to save each and every life.

Spare a thought for the police, the media who are working day and night to save people across the world.

He comforted the people of the country that all efforts are being made to ensure the supply of essential commodities.

A special fund of Rs. 15000 crores has been created by India to fight Coronavirus. He appealed to people not to self-medicate and desist from falling prey to rumours.

“Please accept these curtailments of your freedom of movement in the hope that we will win this war against this deadly virus,” Narendra Modi concluded.
