As the world observes International Human Rights Day, the Sikh community’s struggle against Indian state terrorism stands as a testament to their resilience and commitment to their fundamental rights. The World Sikh Parliament’s call for the urgent need for international intervention to uphold the rule of law, human rights, and the right to self-determination as per international law reiterates the resolve for a peaceful resolution of the Indo-Sikh conflict which is engaging world attention. WSN reports.

The call of the World Sikh Parliament to uphold the Right to Self-Determination is a reiteration of the peaceful steps by the Sikh Diaspora to highlight the aspirations of the Sikh people in their homeland Punjab. The recent revelations by the United States and Canada regarding India’s alleged involvement in extraterritorial killings, particularly targeting the Sikh community, have sparked global outrage.

These allegations, focussed around a foiled assassination attempt of American Sikh national Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, have escalated to high-level meetings between US and Indian officials, including discussions at the level of National Security Advisors. The upcoming visit of the FBI Chief to New Delhi underscores the seriousness with which the US is pursuing this matter, indicating a significant shift in international relations and a focus on human rights abuses.

The US Department of Justice’s indictment of Indian intelligence agency RAW for plotting to assassinate a leading advocate of Sikh self-determination in New York has significantly undermined India’s attempts to falsely accuse Sikhs of terrorism. This indictment has thrown India’s ruling BJP, known for its extremist Hindutva ideology, into a foreign policy crisis. The FBI’s disclosure of photographic evidence of a $15,000 advance payment to the intended shooter, an undercover US security officer, marks a severe diplomatic blow to the Modi government.

Ranjit-Singh-SraiRanjit Singh Srai, a leader of the Self-Determination Council of The World Sikh Parliament stated, “The World Sikh Parliament has urged the international community to recognize India as a rogue state, threatening religious and national minorities.”

The statement calls for renewed sanctions against key Indian officials, including Prime Minister Modi, for their roles in human rights violations.

These incidents have led to a global outcry among Sikhs, who have long suffered under India’s state-sanctioned violence. The World Sikh Parliament’s statement highlights the decades-long genocidal acts, torture, enforced disappearances, arbitrary detention, and mass killings of Sikhs in India. The statement also condemns the Indian government’s attempts to suppress the Sikh diaspora’s voice and its right to self-determination, particularly the aspiration for a sovereign state in Indian-occupied Punjab.

As the Sikhs across the globe continue their aggressive lobbying with their representatives, the World Sikh Parliament brings to the fore the need for the Sikh leadership worldwide to engage with world powers in a more concerted manner so that they too become part of the discussions involving their security and safety.

The revelation has led to a series of international repercussions, including several RAW operatives being ordered out of Western states. This move, as per the FBI and CIA officials, is a clear message against transgressing the rule of law, human rights, and state sovereignty.

As the Sikhs across the globe continue their aggressive lobbying with their representatives, the World Sikh Parliament brings to the fore the need for the Sikh leadership worldwide to engage with world powers in a more concerted manner so that they too become part of the discussions involving their security and safety. In the journey of conflict resolution, it is just about the right time for discussion with Sikhs involving India, the countries that are the second homes of Sikhs, and Special representatives of the United Nations.
