The World Sikh News completes one year today and reiterates commitment to stay steadfast. WSN is not in the race of Breaking News. WSN in the battle of Breaking Views. WSN will not lose focus and stay determined, “because the truth needs to be told.”

The World Sikh News journey started this day one year ago on the eve of the Nanakshahi New Year. This one year has been a year of commitment and determination to project the Sikh viewpoint challenging the established opinion of individuals, columnists, countries and groups disinclined to dissent and counter-opinion. The World Sikh News thanks all its readers, technical team, columnists and the editorial team for being part of the journey.

The World Sikh News is the new star on the horizon of Sikh journalism and we are focussed to prove the quip, “the Sikhs do not have their own media” wrong. We will slowly but steadily traverse the long walk and make the world listen to Sikh opinion on issues and political developments. The day will come too soon when the WSN will be a force to reckon with.

The World Sikh News is the new star on the horizon of Sikh journalism and we are focussed to prove the quip, “the Sikhs do not have their own media” wrong.

During the course of the year, we brought forth the dichotomous  approach towards politics and religion by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, questioned the silence of the political parties in Punjab over human rights violations in the state, denounced the anti-Sikh approach of the editor of the English daily Tribune, highlighted the blasphemous cartoon of the Hindustan Times, exposed the bias of columnists like Shekhar Gupta and the utter bias of the Republic TV, expressed solidarity with the case of the missing Nigerian girls, contested the approach of the Central Board of Secondary Education regarding the wearing of Sikh symbols by students appearing for exams, applauded the cinematic effort The Black Prince, campaigned for the Nanakshahi Calendar in its pure form, joined the campaign for a National Sikh War Memorial in London and celebrated the role of Sikh achievers across the Punjab and the Sikh Diaspora. The Justin Trudeau saga in the last month was one our high points when we took the lead to counter the Sikhophobia of the Indian state. We even had a rare print version of the World Sikh News for the Sikhs in South East Asia, especially Indonesian Sikhs.

The WSN journey will soon go live with the WSN Views Channel -the first of its kind forum in the English language, breaking the barrier which segregates the Sikhs from the world and also bringing the world nearer to the Sikhs.

There were a few misses, but they were more by default than by choice. The coming years will see that such misses are rare. We will be more alert and alive on social media platforms not to disengage readers through a barrage of news, but engage the discerning reader with views and opinion on a variety of topics. There will be vibrant sections for women and children for issues directly concerning them.

The World Sikh News invites you to join as readers, writers, contributors and donors so that we can fearlessly continue the mission to review, rebel and lead Sikh opinion in the Sikh world and the world that touches the Sikhs. We seek dedicated readers, opinion-makers and the conscientious leaders to share our opinions, generate a new body of thought and idiom which will impact the interests of the Sikh people across the world.

As we enter the second year of publication in this third avtar of The World Sikh News, we are conscious and aware of the legacy of the publication. The WSN journey will soon go live with the WSN Views Channel -the first of its kind forum in the English language, breaking the barrier which segregates the Sikhs from the world and also bringing the world nearer to the Sikhs.

If you like our stories, do follow WSN on Facebook.

As enjoined by the Ninth Master Guru Tegh Bahadar Ji, “frighten none and fear none” will always be our benchmark. We are not in the race of Breaking News. We are in the battle of Breaking Views. WSN will not lose focus and stay determined, “because the truth needs to be told.”
