WSO pushes public debate on Sikh extremism in 2018 Public Safety Report

As the government of Canada, despite promises has yet to withdraw the unsubstantiated charges and allegations of Sikh extremism mentioned in the Public Safety Report 2018 on the Terrorism Threat to Canada, WSO will now be hosting a community meeting on 7 April in association with the Ontario Sikh and Gurdwaras Council and the Ontario Gurdwaras Committee.

Community members invited to the Brampton City Hall (Atrium) will discuss the impact this section has had on them and the image of Canadian Sikhs as a whole. Members of Parliament and elected officials from across the Greater Toronto Area are likely to participate and give an ear to the conversations that will take place.

Community leaders will also outline the next steps to be taken to ensure that the malafide mention is dropped and such wild allegations are not repeated in future.

Sikh Canadian leaders have had a meeting with Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale on January 21, 2019, but to no avail so far.
